Provider360 guide to the 38 NDIS registration groups and the audit pathway each one triggers

NDIS registration groups: all 38, and the audit each one triggers

There are 38 NDIS registration groups, numbered 0101 to 0138. A registration group is the class of support you are approved to deliver, and the mix you pick decides your audit: 23 of the 38 sit on the verification pathway and 15 on certification. Groups 0137 and 0138 were added to the Provider Registration Rules on 1 July 2026.

The Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Act 2026: what it means for providers, plan managers and support coordinators

The Securing the NDIS for Future Generations Act 2026 is the federal government's main NDIS reform law for 2026. It passed both Houses on 19 August 2026 and received Royal Assent on 20 August 2026 as Act No. 66 of 2026. Its formal and transitional provisions commenced on assent; the first provider changes start seven days later, on 27 August 2026. Providers already delivering SIL can keep operating during the transition, but must apply for registration by 1 October 2026 to continue.

The NDIS Commission charges no registration fee: it costs $0 to register with the Commission. What you do pay sits in four categories: your Approved Quality Auditor's fee, insurance, worker screening, and preparation (documentation plus audit-readiness services). The pathway your services require then sets your cost band. Verification covers low-risk services, and Certification covers high-risk core supports, with or without specialised services.

Mandatory NDIS registration is expanding: Butler’s April 2026 announcement

On 22 April 2026, Minister for Health, Disability and Ageing Mark Butler announced at the National Press Club that mandatory NDIS provider registration will expand to cover personal care, daily living supports, and supports provided in closed settings. Those three are examples: the rollout to all high-risk supports begins 1 July 2027, with providers in scope registered by December 2030. Supported Independent Living (SIL) and platform provider registration, mandatory since 1 July 2026, is unchanged.

SIL providers must be NDIS registered from 1 July 2026 — here’s what to do now

From 1 July 2026, mandatory NDIS registration applies to all providers delivering Supported Independent Living (SIL). The rule was confirmed by the Minister for the NDIS in December 2025. Unregistered SIL providers who do not register during the transition period will not be permitted to continue delivering SIL supports — and sanctions, compliance and enforcement actions may apply. Because the registration process takes 8–12 months, the time to act is now.
