High intensity Daily Personal Activities

Involves working with participants who require more specialised, health-related support in their own homes or in community health settings. This includes any of the following supports Complex Bowel Care, Enteral Feeding Support, Dysphagia Support, Ventilator Support, Tracheostomy Support, Urinary Catheter Support, Subcutaneous Injections (including Diabetes Support) and/or Epilepsy and Seizure Support.

Registered or Enrolled Nurse - Current AHPRA Registration and experience in the profession and evidence of involvement in clinical supervision and professional development.

Support Workers - Must have received training from and work under the supervision of an appropriately qualified health practitioner (i.e. Registered Nurse).

Assistance in coordinating or managing life stages, transitions and supports

Includes levels 1 and 2 of Support Coordination which focus on strengthening an NDIS participant’s ability to design and build their supports with an emphasis on linking the broader systems of support. It also includes Psychosocial Recovery Coaching to support people with psychosocial disability to live a full and contributing life. 

Level 1 & 2 Support Coordination - The NDIS Commission does not stipulate any minimum qualification requirements.

Psychosocial Recovery Coaching - Must have tertiary qualifications in peer work or mental health (minimum of Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Certificate IV in Mental Health) or equivalent training; and/or a minimum two years of relevant experience.

Specialised Behaviour Supports

This support item is provided by Behaviour Support Practitioners registered with the NDIS. These practitioners possess specialist skills in positive behaviour support, including assessment and the development of comprehensive behaviour support plans that aim to reduce and manage behaviours of concern.

Behaviour Support Practitioners are specialists, preferably with tertiary qualifications in relevant disciplines such as Nursing, Psychology, Special Education, Speech Pathology, Occupational Therapy or Social Work. Service providers must engage a Behaviour Support Practitioner, who has been assessed as suitable, to deliver specialist behaviour supports to NDIS participants.

Assistance Animals

This support item includes providing NDIS participants with assistance animals (most commonly dog guides) as a disability support. It requires to be a registered assistance animal provider.

An accredited assistance animal provider pursuing their NDIS registration must be registered with the relevant state or territory authority for assistance. The provider must be able to show us evidence they’re accredited to train and qualify an assistance animal.

Specialised Disability Accommodation (SDA)

Specialist disability accommodation (SDA) is a range of housing designed for people with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. SDA dwellings have accessible features to help residents live more independently and allow other supports to be delivered better or more safely.

Can be delivered by any profession. Providers must be registered through the NDIS Commission to enrol an SDA dwelling. When someone builds a SDA property, they need to enrol it with the NDIS Commission before it can be used as Specialist Disability Accommodation. If the provider pursues registration without a physical property, the auditor will record a minor non-conformity.

Specialist Support Coordination (Level 3)

Specialist Support Coordination is a higher level of support (level 3). The focus is on reducing complexity in the participant’s support environment and helping the participant overcome immediate and/or significant barriers in plan implementation.

Specialist Support Coordination is delivered by an appropriately qualified and experienced practitioner to meet the individual needs of the participant’s circumstances such as a Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker, or Mental Health Nurse. This support is delivered utilising an expert or specialist approach, necessitated by specific high complex needs or high level risks in a participant’s situation.

Specialised Supported Employment

Supports in employment, is day-to-day assistance in the workplace to maintain employment. This may include interventions to reduce complex behaviours and barriers to sustaining employment, skills development to transition from a current role to a new role either in the ADE or with a new employer, and developing a career plan.

Hearing Services

The Hearing Services registration category is recommended for the delivery of hearing services delivered by an audiometrist or an audiologist not covered by the Medicare Benefits Scheme (MBS) or the Hearing Services Program (HSP).

Implementation of Restrictive Practices

This module applies to the NDIS providers who support people who may be subject to a restrictive practice during delivery of any NDIS supports and services that has the effect of restricting the rights or freedom of movement of a person with a disability such as seclusion, chemical, mechanical, physical or environmental restraint.

The NDIS Commission does not stipulate any minimum qualification requirements for this support. Providers must demonstrate suitability by meeting the NDIS Practice Standards and Quality Indicators for Module 2A. Additional State or Territory requirements may apply to implementing providers.

Medication Management

This module includes the administration, storage and monitoring of the effects of medication on participants. All workers responsible for administering medication to participants must understand the effects and side-effects of the medication and the steps to take in the event of an incident involving medication.

Waste Management

This module includes the safe and appropriate storage, handling and disposal of waste and infectious or hazardous substances (including used PPE), after the delivery of healthcare supports to NDIS participants. Waste covers general, clinical, clinical sharps, and pharmaceutical waste.
