The work is different depending on what you already hold.
On 1 November 2025 the Aged Care Act 2024 replaced the approved-provider model. Providers now register in categories, and three of those categories are audited.
"Strengthened" is the official name, not a marketing word. Eight Standards became seven, rebuilt around 33 measurable outcomes. Documents written to the old eight will not hold up.
Support at Home replaced Home Care Packages the same day, backed by $389.8 million to release packages faster and $1 billion to remove personal care co-contributions. The funding is arriving. Registration is the gate.
Your category follows the services you actually deliver, and it decides whether the Commission audits you.

You do not need to offer every service type in a category to register in it. Category 6 is the exception. Most providers register in more than one category. A seventh "subscription trial" category was added on 1 July 2026, mirroring whichever of category 4 or 5 you already hold, and it is not separately audited.
No. Aged care has its own Act, its own regulator and its own audit. Your NDIS registration does not transfer, and neither do the documents you built for your Practice Standards audit.
Aged care categories 4, 5 and 6 are audited by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission itself. There is no Approved Quality Auditor step.

A new aged care provider registering in category 4 pays the Commission $21,940: $3,270 assessment, $3,800 category review, $14,870 audit. That is before documentation, insurance, or a single staff hour.
The audit fee is charged per application. Your documentation is what that audit examines.
What these fees do not include. Documentation, insurance, staffing and every other setup cost sit outside them. The Aged Care Registration Package is priced separately, and the Commission's fees are only one line in your setup budget.

No. Aged care operates under the Aged Care Act 2024 and is regulated by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission, separately from the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. You apply for aged care registration in your own right, and your NDIS registration carries no weight in that application.
Categories 4, 5 and 6. The Commission audits those applications against the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards. Categories 1, 2 and 3 are not audited and the Quality Standards do not apply to them, although those providers still carry obligations including the Statement of Rights and the Aged Care Code of Conduct.
Not as they are. The strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards are built around seven Standards and 33 outcomes, which is a different architecture to the NDIS Practice Standards. A document written to a Practice Standard does not evidence an aged care outcome, and an assessor reading recycled NDIS language will recognise it. The underlying policy positions often survive. The mapping does not.
$3,270 for the entity level assessment, plus a category review fee of $1,270 for each of categories 1 to 3, $3,800 for each of categories 4 and 5, or $5,070 for category 6. Applications in categories 4, 5 and 6 also carry a $14,870 registration audit fee. You apply to the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission using its application for registration form, in the categories that match the services you plan to deliver. The Commission assesses your suitability, financial management and capability, and for categories 4, 5 and 6 it also audits you against the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards before it decides.
Yes, if you deliver Australian Government funded aged care services. Since 1 November 2025 every funded provider must hold registration in at least one of the six categories under the Aged Care Act 2024. Services delivered entirely outside government funding sit outside the registration model.
Every applicant must show suitability, financial management capability, and the capacity to deliver the services in the categories applied for. Applicants in categories 4, 5 and 6 must also conform with the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards that apply to their category, tested by a Commission audit.
No. This package covers registration categories 1 to 5. Category 6, residential care, carries all seven Standards including food and nutrition and the residential community, and it needs a separate build. We would rather say so than sell you a set that stops short.
Templates. You receive editable Word documents branded to your organisation, each mapped to the Standard and outcome it evidences, and you own them outright. You do the tailoring and the implementation. That is what keeps the price where it is.

The Commission sets its own assessment and audit timeframes, and we cannot commit to them on its behalf. What you can control is how ready your documentation is when you apply, because incomplete evidence is a common reason applications stall.
